A West Bay couple have been left homeless after a fire severely damaged their home.

The blaze broke out in the early hours of Monday morning, 29 Dec., impacting the home and surrounding buildings and vehicles.

Video shared on Everything345’s Instagram page showed heavy flames and thick smoke engulfing the homes. The cause of the fire is still unknown.

Fire swept through this home on Watercourse Road, and destroyed vehicles and a store house in the yard.

Homeowner Yvonne Wellington told Compass TV she was still in shock. She explained that her husband first noticed the fire in the kitchen.

“When my husband went into the kitchen, he saw the kitchen window, sink, cupboards, everything on fire,” Wellington said. “He told me to run out because the place was burning.

“When I came outside, I saw the storeroom on fire and a lot of smoke, and I just ran.”

Cayman Islands Fire Services crews later brought the fire, which was reported around 1:25am, under control. Authorities say all residents safely evacuated the affected buildings, and no one was seriously injured.

The Fire Service said it was investigating the cause and origin of the blaze.

Although Wellington and her husband escaped unharmed, they are now left without a place to live and only the clothes they were wearing.
