The Tennis Federation of the Cayman Islands recently hosted the KPMG Junior Tennis Tournament, a competition that drew more than 30 young athletes ranging in age from 8 to 18 years old.

Originally scheduled for 16-18 Jan., the event was postponed due to inclement weather. The tournament was later held from 30 Jan. to 1 Feb. at the Cayman Islands Tennis Club in South Sound.

In the 10 and under division, Dominic Drobot secured the title after a final against runner-up Aleph Laufer.

The 12 and under category saw Max Wolfe take the win over Liam O’Kelly, while Annabel Johnson finished as the winner in the 14 and under division, with Lucas Laidlaw taking the runner-up position.

In the 18 and under category, Daniel Suico earned the top spot over Elias Drobac.

Reflecting on the tournament, Elaine Anderson, president of the Tennis Federation of the Cayman Islands said, “The level of tennis, especially from the youngest age group, was exceptional this weekend; points of 15-20 plus rallies.

“The respect and sportsmanship displayed on court by the young players was outstanding as well, and that is arguably more important a lesson learned than the winning and the losing during these competitions,” she added.

This recent tournament marks the first of seven in the series with Anderson sharing that “the next junior tournament in the Tennis Federation of the Cayman Islands 2026 KPMG Junior Tennis Circuit will be held on 27 February to 1 March at the Cayman Islands Tennis Club.”
