Police are investigating two crashes on the same day that left three people in hospital.

Two men were taken to the Anthony S. Eden Hospital after they fell off an e-bicycle.

They were said to be in “stable condition” in hospital with “non-life-threatening injuries”.

The incident happened on South Sound Road in George Town on 8 June just before 7pm.

Police said the 33-year-old driver of the e-bike was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and that inquiries continued.

Two-vehicle collision

A driver had to be freed by firefighters after their Kia Sportage was in collision with a Toyota Corolla in the early hours of 8 June on South Church Street in George Town.

The trapped Kia driver was extricated from the wreckage and taken to the Anthony S. Eden Hospital for treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

Police said the driver of the Toyota attempted to flee the scene, but was tracked down, breath-tested and arrested on suspicion of drink driving, as well as for other alleged offences.

The incident happened just after midnight and both vehicles suffered “extensive” damage.

Police said the incident remained under investigation by specialist traffic officers.

Police highlighted that there had been “a high volume” of crashes on South Church Street between Clayton Drive and Denham Thompson Way, adding, “These concerns have been raised with our partner agency, the National Roads Agency, with a view to identifying and implementing adjustments that may help to alleviate these issues.”
