Police have launched an investigation after a staff member in Cayman’s law courts was suspended from duty because of an alleged incident involving a member of the public.
Staff from the Law Courts office said the incident involved alleged “inappropriate conduct” by a staff member.
It is understood the allegations were made by a female member of the public and involved a male member of staff.
A spokeswoman for the Law Courts office added, “Upon being made aware of the matter, the staff member was immediately removed from duty and from the premises.”
She added the incident was now under investigation in line with disciplinary procedures, public services legislation and personnel regulations.
The spokeswoman said, “The Judicial Administration views the allegations with grave concern and remains committed to upholding the dignity and safety of all court users.”
A police spokeswoman added that officers had been informed of the complaint.
She said, “Police can confirm that we are aware of the allegations made and are taking appropriate action.”
The Law Courts office did not respond to a series of questions submitted by the Compass.
