The Cayman Islands Cabinet has approved a deportation order for local track coach Ato Modibo Stephens for March 16, “or as soon thereafter as can be arranged” by immigration authorities, according to an announcement made Wednesday by Premier Alden McLaughlin’s office.

Former track coach Ato Stephens is contesting his expulsion from the Cayman Islands Athletic Association, claiming the sports organization has breached his human rights.

Ato Modibo Stephens, former athletics coach, was sentenced Thursday to 18 months in prison for convincing a 14-year-old girl on his track team to send him topless photographs of herself.

Former track coach Ato Stephens told a court Monday he was embarrassed and very sorry for “inappropriate” WhatsApp messages between him and a girl on the track team he had coached.

Ato Stephens, the former track coach accused of indecently assaulting a young female athlete, apologized to the girl’s parents, Justice Michael Wood heard last week. The mother and father gave their evidence in court after the girl gave hers via video link on Thursday.
