The National Crime Agency, the U.K.’s equivalent of the FBI, has claimed it is not getting the information it needs from the Cayman Islands in its anti-money laundering and criminal investigations.

Appleby, The Guardian newspaper and the BBC announced they have settled a lawsuit brought by the offshore law firm against the British media organizations in the wake of the so-called “Paradise Papers” coverage that was based on documents that Appleby said were stolen from the firm in a cyberattack.

Appleby is taking legal action against two U.K.-based media organizations, the BBC and The Guardian, over their reporting of offshore transactions by the law firm’s clients based on what Appleby calls confidential information taken in a “criminal act.”

During an appearance on the BBC this month, Cayman Finance CEO Jude Scott highlighted the Cayman Islands’ regulatory and transparency regime. “The reality is not all offshore jurisdictions are made the same," he said on the program.

The Cayman Islands is fortunate to have a sustained and stentorian voice proclaiming, anytime and anywhere, the virtues of our jurisdiction’s financial services sector.

All the fuss over the recent BBC documentary should not be about its content but rather how we managed to get “spun” so easily by a journalist yet again.

Tourism bosses say they are disappointed with the content of the recent BBC documentary on the Cayman Islands.

The BBC’s documentary on the Cayman Islands, “Britain’s Trillion Pound Island” showed off some of the island’s natural beauty to viewers in the U.K. But not everyone watching from Cayman, including some of the people featured in the show, were too impressed.
