Bermuda’s Premier David Burt called the island’s tax blacklisting by the European Union a “setback,” but said that, as of Wednesday, he believes Bermuda is compliant with EU requirements and should be removed at the next EU Council meeting in May.

The decision by the U.K. parliament to threaten an order in council to force the overseas territories to make their beneficial ownership registries public has caused consternation in Bermuda, the BVI and other territories.

The Progressive Labour Party won a landslide general election victory in Bermuda this week, taking power from the one-term One Bermuda Alliance.
