Cayman’s culture and heritage takes centre stage for five weeks in the run up to the main Pirates Week festivities, with a series of district heritage days all over Grand Cayman.

The annual Pirates Week festival, held in Cayman since 1977, is getting a face-lift as it marks its 40th iteration this year.

In a show of community spirit, the people of Cayman Brac came together for a day of fun and culture at last weekend’s Pirates Week Heritage Day.

This year’s Pirates Week Cayman Brac heritage day promises lots of fun for all ages, featuring a range of activities and displays plus a float parade. The Cayman Brac Heritage Day committee has a jam-packed agenda this year.

George Town Heritage Day activities featured a lot more than pirates for visitors attending the Nov. 15 event at the Farmers Market Grounds. A rich display of Cayman produce was on offer, as well as multicultural heritage and foods in a cool setting. A DJ was spinning music all day.

East End Heritage Day on Wednesday attracted visitors from all over the island for a day and night of traditional local foods, artifacts, live music and games. As always the East End Heritage Committee had a special treat stored up for guests.

The exciting prospects of enjoying local food, artifacts, cultural activities and local music had visitors and pirates stopping in at the Bodden Town Heritage Day on Monday. The annual event during Pirates Week featured live music, crafts, food, local businesses and more from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Nov. 14.

The West Bay Heritage Committee is gearing up for Heritage Day 2016.
