Cayman Islands Red Cross raising money for Haiti
The Cayman Islands Red Cross is participating in an international Red Cross Federation effort to raise US$6.9 million for Haiti relief after much of the country was devastated by Hurricane Matthew two weeks ago. Haiti relief flight rescheduled for Sunday
More than $500,000 worth of supplies, collected in Cayman over three days last week, are scheduled to be flown to Haiti Sunday. The supplies were originally scheduled to be airlifted to Port-au-Prince earlier in the week, but government in Cayman has been negotiating with the Haitian president’s office to make sure the supplies end up in the right hands.

Forecasters say Hurricane Matthew will turn to the north and any impact on the Cayman Islands will be minimal. The U.S. National Hurricane Center upgraded Matthew to a hurricane Thursday. Forecasters with Cayman’s National Weather Service say the islands will likely see rough seas of 4 to 6 feet and winds up to 20 mph from overnight Sunday through Monday, but do not expect any major impacts.
Tropical Storm Matthew forms, could become hurricane Friday
Tropic Storm Matthew has formed just east of the Caribbean, about 35 miles southeast of St. Lucia, and the National Hurricane Center predicts the storm could become a hurricane by Friday.
