The U.K. Supreme Court has ruled that the law on “joint enterprise” – which allows someone to be convicted of murder even if they did not strike the fatal blow – has been wrongly interpreted for more than three decades.

Joint enterprise has been a feature of numerous high-profile cases in Cayman in recent years, including the murders of Estella Scott-Roberts, Frederic Bise and Marcus Duran, as well as in the New Year’s Day robbery of Diamonds International and a holdup at Blackbeard’s liquor store.

The recent decision of the U.K. Supreme Court in the cases of Jogee and Ruddock, decided together only days ago, is sending ripples through the legal fraternity and the community as a whole.
