The National Trust has completed the purchase of a section of untouched Mastic Forest, hailing its historical significance and conservation value.

The Mastic Trail, named for the native yellow mastic tree, provides a glimpse to a part of Cayman that has existed in its present form for millions of years. And in the middle of the trail, there’s a majestic specimen of yellow mastic that has likely been standing since the days of Christopher Columbus.

Despite Cayman’s reputation for being pricey, these islands are packed with cheap and cheerful ways to keep everyone entertained, helping you save up for the bigger things.

With the start of the rainy season now here, North Side’s Mastic Trail is featuring lots of plants in flower and fruit.

A walk along North Side’s Mastic Trail in January offers the opportunity to spot some of Cayman’s overwintering migratory birds, including the northern parula, American redstart, black-and-white warbler, black-throated blue warbler, ovenbird and catbird.
