Cayman’s seniors are the fastest-growing age group, with life expectancy exceeding 82 years. Many remain vibrant symbols of resilience, yet ageing Caymanians also face loneliness, poverty, inadequate pensions and gaps in health and social care.

New policy guidelines unveiled this week aim to put more resources into helping the islands’ older residents and give specific protections to stop the neglect, fraud and abuse that some in government say is committed regularly against elderly people.

Cabinet this week approved an “Older Persons’ Policy” that will span the next 20 years, according to the Ministry for Community Affairs.
