Cayman residents can now open a Butterfield account online without having to visit a branch or submit physical documents.

Two recent announcements, one from the Cayman Islands Bankers Association concerning the cut-off time for domestic electronic payments and another from Scotiabank that it was upgrading its digital platform for personal investment accounts, bode well for online banking in the Cayman Islands.

Butterfield Bank's online banking services will be unavailable this weekend as it updates its system, the bank has advised.
