Officials from the Ministry of Infrastructure have confirmed that vehicle licence-plate scanning systems installed along the edges of the Camana Bay tunnels and South Sound are now operational, with more to come.

More than two-and-a-half years since the Ministry of Infrastructure embarked on a mission to upgrade Cayman’s traffic-monitoring mechanisms, through devices capable of scanning licence plates of vehicles as they pass, the system remains incomplete and inoperable.

Scanners capable of reading data from vehicles have been installed at the Camana Bay tunnel on the Esterley Tibbetts Highway.

Overhead scanners could soon be collecting data from vehicles on Cayman’s roads.
