Thirteen recruits took part in a graduation ceremony on Friday as they officially joined the ranks of the Cayman Islands Coast Guard.

Cayman’s first class of Coast Guard recruits has graduated and will now serve as special constables, pending the formalisation of the legislative framework for the country’s newest law enforcement body.

Following a week during which firefighters tackled a major blaze at the landfill and dealt with the fallout from a 7.7 magnitude earthquake, the Cayman Islands Fire Service has some reinforcements, with 21 recruits graduating and joining the team.
