Months after the Cayman Islands “whistleblower” law came into effect, legislators are proposing a “clarifying amendment” stipulating that protections should apply not only to public employees reporting improper conduct in government, but extend to private enterprise, as well. To us, this “clarification” serves as a “magnification” of the problems in the legislation.
Government: Whistleblower Law applies to all
Cayman’s first overarching legislation protecting those who report wrongdoing in the workplace will apply to all legal entities both in the public and private sector.
First Whistleblower Law takes effect
Nearly four years after former Complaints Commissioner Nicola Williams decried a culture of fear within the Cayman Islands government service, the British territory’s first law solely aimed at protecting whistleblowers – those who report wrongdoing within organizations – takes effect.
