Local referee Alasdair Robertson took a huge step recently when he travelled to Los Angeles to officiate in the International Rugby Board World Series of Sevens.
Alasdair was invited to run touch for several of the matches between the worlds top ten teams in what is the last leg of the series before the World Cup Of Sevens in Hong Kong in a few weeks.
Alasdair, who works as an attorney with Maples and Calder, also serves as the president of the referees society in Cayman and can be found most saturdays somewhere either coaching the youth or officiating the men.
Richard Adams, technical Director for the Union is delighted with the achievement made by Alasdair.
‘It opens up new doors to Alasdair, gives him a view of how the profesional game is handled and that can only be good for us here in Cayman as we are trying to develop referees as much as players while the game is still cementing itself in the sporting community,’ said Adams. ‘It also just goes to prove that sometimes officiating gets you around the world just as much as playing.’
