Painting raises $4,650 for recovery fund

A John Gray High School teacher’s painting of two fishermen has raised $4,650 for the Cayman Islands National Recovery Fund.

The painting was sold during a recent fundraising auction and dinner at London’s Westminster Palace by friends of Cayman.

Artist John Broad said he had donated the painting, which had been displayed in London’s Cayman offices, after officials asked him if he would auction the work to support the island’s recovery efforts.

The 6-foot-by-4-foot acrylic on canvas was bought by an employee of the Athens- based Cayman Islands Shipping Registry.

Mr. Broad said his interest in people at work and play had inspired the painting. The colour represented the bond between friends spending time together fishing, he said.
