The 2nd annual IRG Knight Frank Youth Rugbyfest, held on Saturday, was a huge success, says national technical director Richard Adams. More than 200 children participated in the day’s matches and events.
Sponsor IRG Knight Frank supplied each player with a commemorative T-shirt, medal of participation and a full size Gilbert rugby ball. Burger King supplied lunch for all of the players.
International Rugby Board Regional Development Officer Tom Jones was on hand to witness the day’s events and present the awards to each player. ‘As I tell other small unions worldwide, Cayman is a model union in terms of management and development,’ said Jones. ‘I have never seen the likes of today in any other Caribbean union or indeed throughout North America and I applaud all of the players, parents, volunteers coaches and managers on an excellent day and of course and excellent youth development program.’
The day was capped of by the national U-19 Academy playing against Columbia Business school from New York. Although the Academy players were outsized by their senior counterparts they played well and in the end dominated many facets of play to win the match 52-0.
The next game against CBS is set for 5:15 this Friday against a Cayman clubs side at the South Sound pitch.
