New sports bar opening

A new sports bar called Davie Jones Locker featuring 25 televisions, virtual reality sports games and seven different beers on tap will open at the Shoppes at Grand Harbour within the next week.

Most of the televisions in the new bar will be high definition. The televisions include eight with large screens and five projection televisions.

Located next to Castaway’s Grille, Davie Jones Locker will show sports of all kinds said part owner and manager Ken Moore.

‘We’ll have all the games,’ he said. ‘We’ll show every (American) football game that is broadcast, the soccer games and even rugby.’

Mr. Moore said that the bar would also carry pay-per-view boxing matches, but unlike many other local establishments, would only charge a nominal cover charge for entry, or none at all.

The establishment will feature a traditional sports bar menu serving entrees like prime rib, steaks and fish in addition to staples such as burgers, fries and chicken wings.

The wings will not be the usual kind offered in Cayman. ‘We’ll have many different kinds of wings, like teriyaki, honey mustard and barbeque wings, plus the usual hot wings,’ said Mr. Moore.

Davie Jones Locker will feature a 17-foot by 23-foot full-rectangle bar with 80 linear feet of bar space, as well as table seating.

Cayman Grand Harbour marketing manager Norm Belanger said that one of the novel features of the sports bar will be virtual reality sports games. ‘You’ll be able to play football, soccer, golf, baseball, basketball and even hockey,’ he said.

In addition, the bar will also have a laser shooting/hunting game and darts.

Children will be allowed in the premises to sit at the tables and to play the virtual reality games, but they will not be permitted at the bar, Mr. Moore said.
