This year the Key Clubs of Division 25B- Cayman Islands sent the largest contingent of members ever to the 67th Annual Florida District Convention in Orlando.
At total of 46 Key Club members attended from St. Ignatius, Cayman Prep and Triple C schools as well as several chaperones, said a press release from the club. The convention took place 21 to 24 April.
Key Club is a non- profit service organization, which is the high school branch of Kiwanis. Key Club is the largest student-led service organization in the world, with more than 5,000 high schools participating.
Although times have been difficult for the five clubs in the Cayman Islands post-Ivan, the majority were able to overcome this and send members to the District Convention, the release said.
The convention attracted more than 1,700 Key Club members from around the Florida District of Key Clubs (which the Cayman Islands division is a part of). The division was recognized for bringing the largest number of members ever from the Cayman Islands.
Ridhima Kapoor, Lt. Governor of the Key Clubs in the Cayman Islands and a student at St. Ignatius, along with the President of her Key Club, held a workshop about the Cayman Islands and displayed and presented information from the Department of Tourism. Key Club members from in attendance also assisted in the workshop.
The Lt. Governor-elect of the Key Clubs in the Cayman Islands, Elizabeth Charles, a student of Triple C High School will be taking her new post within the coming weeks.
During the Governor’s Farewell Banquet at the end of the three-day convention, Lt. Governor Ridhima Kapoor received the prestigious Leader of Leaders Award and the James Harris Distinguished Lt. Governor Award. The Cayman delegation of Key Club members were very patriotic, displaying the Cayman national flag at the convention as well as singing the Cayman national anthem.
The group thoroughly enjoyed the convention which included general sessions to recognize clubs in the Florida District, officer training workshops and much more.
Key Clubs of the Cayman Islands thanked the Kiwanis Club of Grand Cayman which, despite rebuilding its own club, has greatly supported all the Key Clubs not only in service project initiatives but also with sending advisors to the convention and providing the contingent with transport.
The Key Clubs also showed their appreciation to the Department of Tourism for providing promotional supplies for the Cayman workshop and to Cayman Airways for providing complimentary tickets and discount tickets for the trip.
