Organisers are upbeat over the recent visit by Trinidadian Tassa drummers Rick and Clyde Baboolal, who wowed audiences at several performances during Cayfest.
Brought down by the Cayman National Cultural Foundation and sponsored by Butterfield Bank, the expert drummers were invited to the Cayman Islands for a three-month period to work with a select group of 10 young students who showed an interest in learning this popular and dramatic Caribbean instrument, says a Foundation press release.
Cayman Drummers will continue to train under the supervision of CNCF Special Projects Manager Sonia Bodden-Kimball, with intermittent visits by Rick and Clyde throughout the year.
Cayman Drummers will accompany the Dance Cayman troupe to Scotland at the end of July for the Aberdeen International Youth Festival.
