Brackers to compete

Coming off the success and fun of their 28th annual Brac Swim Meet, the Lions Club of Grand Cayman are again proud sponsors of the Lions Sprint Meet on Saturday, 28 May at 9am.

To encourage all of Cayman’s swimmers to participate, the Lion’s subsidize the meet entry fees, bring Brac swimmers over and provide the awards. They also turn out enthusiastically en masse to help work the meet, making for a healthy supportive fun event; yellow vests mingling with the vivid colors of dripping bathing suits of Cayman’s swim kids.

The Lions will also be putting on one of their famous ‘Caribbean Breakfasts’ in the grassy area just beyond the Lions Pool, inviting the public to partake of great food and a wonderful scene.

Meet entry forms are available both at the pool and online at www.caymanswimming.com.

Entries must be turned in at the pool by Wednesday 25 May.

‘This is a wonderful opportunity for all the young swimmers to get out and show off what they’ve been learning in the pool this year. We look forward to seeing the Cayman Brac swimmers who attend this fun meet every year providing a little taste of friendly competition for the youngsters,’ said a Stingray Swim Club spokesperson.

Sprint meets include 25-metre events (one length) for 6 years and younger, and for seven-year-olds and 8-year-olds, and a 50-metre events for all older groups.

Age is determined as of the day of the meet.

Competition is in the standard age-groups, in each of the four strokes and the ‘individual medley’.

Stingray Swim Club will play host to the event, providing meet officials, the electronic-timing system and Internet-posted results. Complimenting the Lions breakfast, Stingray SC will have a concession stand selling refreshments and pizza.
