DHL Duathlon

Local athletes turned out in force for the recent Cayman Islands Triathlon Association (CITA)/ DHL Duathlon.

The popular annual event challenges competitors’ speed with a two-mile run, a 12-mile bike race, followed by another two-mile run.

This year, spectators were treated to some exceptionally fast times.

Competing as part of a two-man team, the first runner across the line was Marius Ackerman in a staggering time of 9 minutes and 40 seconds.

His teammate Steve Evans clocked an equally impressive bike time of 30 minutes, 17 seconds, placing both competitors comfortably as the winning team, in a new course record of 50 minutes and 17 seconds.

Not far behind was CITA president David Walker, who managed to take the overall men’s first place for the second-consecutive year with an overall time of 51 minutes, 46 seconds.

First women’s overall went to Alison O’Hare who finished in 1:02:37.

Sportsperson of the Day award went to Jackie Dowdall for exhibiting the best sportsmanship. Jackie’s bike chain broke with six miles to go on the bike course, but in the true spirit of sport she finished the race.

CITA organisers thanked their sponsors – DHL, Cayman Distributors, Progressive Distributors and Kirk’s Supermarket – for their contributions..
