Cayman’s and women’s basketball teams’ medal prospects seem anything but rocky as they prepare to fly out to Gibraltar to take part in the Island Games.
National coach Voot O’Garro feels that both the men’s and women’s teams will make it to the finals.
And he believes that the men – who are silver medal holders from the last Island Games in Guernsey – and the women, who picked up bronze last time, could both be in line for gold this time. The players – 12 male and 12 female, along with three officials – are set to leave on Friday and could figure amongst the tournament favourites.
The women’s team is packed with experienced players such as Eva Aiken, Merta Day and Dionne O’Garro.
But among their ranks is also 14-year-old Cassianne Lawrence who is thought to have a bright future in the game.
The men have seasoned stars like Andrew Wisdom, Dwight O’Garro and Colin Anglin to call on.
‘I am very optimistic about our chances and I predict that both our teams will make it to the finals,’ says national coach O’Garro.
