Cheryll Melanie Richards has been officially appointed as Solicitor General.
Ms Richards was previously acting in the post, following the departure of Kurt DeFreitas in December 2004, said a GIS press release. Mr. DeFreitas recently assumed duties as Attorney General of the Turks and Caicos Islands.
Ms Richards, who joined the Cayman Islands Attorney General’s Chambers in 1996, previously served in Jamaica as a Deputy Director in the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. She thereafter served in the Turks and Caicos Islands as Senior Crown Counsel and Acting Attorney General before joining the Cayman Islands Government service.
She has been an attorney-at-law 19 years.
