UK mums raise money for Cayman

When United Kingdom mum Eileen Jagger saw the extent of the damage sustained by Grand Cayman after Hurricane Ivan, she knew she had to do something to help.

According to a Department of Tourism press release, Eileen and Barry Jagger had previously enjoyed several holidays in the Cayman Islands visiting their sons, Gareth and Ian, so when she was told about the damage to The Pines Retirement Home and the Nadine Andreas Children’s Home, she immediately set about organising a fundraising event.

Gareth Jagger works for the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism and, by coincidence, Mrs. Jagger lives nearby to the mother of another DOT staff member, Patrick Gorham.

With the help of Patricia Gorham, Mrs. Jagger threw an Open House at her home in Suffolk and, thanks to the generosity of local firms who supplied raffle prizes and guests who bought tickets, she was able to raise nearly CI$900. A video and presentation highlighting steps Cayman residents were taking to rebuild their lives was shown during the event.
