Caymanian champ predicts tough fight

Cayman’s boxing hero Charles Whittaker is promising his many fans an explosive night to remember on 22 October.

That’s the night when the most accomplished fighter this country has ever produced brings a title fight to King’s Sports Centre.

Whittaker, a WBA and IBO Intercontinental Middleweight Champion is set to take on Servando Perales for the WBC Junior Middleweight Intercontinental Championship.

Whittaker’s own company – Knockout Productions Ltd. – is promoting the contest, which tops a four-fight bill.

Whittaker, with a record of 15 knockouts in his 25 wins, has been stepping up his training in readiness for a fight he is confident of winning in good style.

‘It’s going to be an exciting fight and I’m looking for the fans to come and support it,’ says Whittaker.

‘From what I know about my opponent he is a tough guy. But in the fight game I expect everyone to be tough,’ he says.

‘It only takes one punch to change a night,’ he points out. ‘It’s wonderful to fight in front of my home town crowd. It makes a big difference,’ says Whittaker.

‘I want to represent my people and my country the best way I can,’ he adds.

Seats are expected to go on sale at $50 each for general admission and $100 each for ringside, he says.
