Cayman reaches out

Leader of Government Business Kurt Tibbetts has sent a message of support to the Governors of the hurricane-ravaged US States of Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana.

The letter, written on behalf of the Cayman Islands Government, expresses sympathy as those States start the long recovery process in the wake of Hurricane Katrina’s devastation.

‘We sat here helplessly and observed Katrina’s fury.

‘Throughout your ordeal, we ourselves relived vivid memories of the devastation we experienced as a result of Hurricane Ivan almost a year ago,’ said Mr. Tibbetts.

For that reason Cayman had an acute sense of appreciation for the overwhelming and catastrophic loss of life and property involved, he said.

Much of Cayman’s slow and steady progress toward recovery could be attributed to help from its friends in the US, Mr Tibbetts said in the letter.

‘While we are still in the midst of an arduous recovery process, we stand willing to assist in any way possible.

‘To this end we would be happy to receive from you a list of your immediate needs whether humanitarian or otherwise,’ he said.

‘In the meantime, you remain in our thoughts and prayers,’ he added.
