JA helps in aid

The University of New Orleans in Jamaica will be establishing a disaster relief fund at the Bank of Nova Scotia and First Global Bank to help victims of Hurricane Katrina which struck New Orleans, Louisiana, this week.

A spokesperson from the school told The Gleaner that the alumni would be convening a meeting today at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, New Kingston, at 6:00 p.m. to discuss details of the fund.

Meanwhile, the university said the disaster in New Orleans would not have any effect on its academic programme as its professors had evacuated to other States before the hurricane made landfall.
