Green Synergy a go

The first week of Green Synergy – the National DJ Competition sponsored by Heineken Music – kicked off with a mighty bang on Wednesday 31 August 31st at Mango Tree with the Urban Competition in Hip Hop, Reggae, Soca and R&B performances by the first competitors.

Four of the competition’s eight competitors battled it out to determine the first standings for the competition, which had its start in Cayman in 2003.

‘We were very pleased with the turnout and the performance of the DJs,’ states Searlina Bodden of Monster Media, coordinating the event for Heineken Music.

‘The night definitely set an encouraging tone for the remainder of the competition.’

Green Synergy runs over one full month here in the Cayman Islands. Four weekly ‘DJ Challenges’ take place until Wednesday, 21 September at Mango Tree.

The following Wednesday 28 September, a ‘Happy Hour Heat’ at Welly’s Cool Spot will pit all eight DJs against one another in a two for two battle. On Friday, 30 September, the finals take place at Mango Tree and the four finalists will be joined on stage by an all star lineup including 2003’s champion Neil Sam, as well as Jamaica’s newly-crowned Green Synergy champion and a special guest appearance by a Fame FM DJ out of Jamaica.

Green Synergy Urban is actually one half of the competition going on in the Cayman Islands during September. The other, a similar competition in dance, house, and remix music is being sponsored by the Vibe 98.9 FM’s sister station Spin 94.9 FM.

The Urban side of Green Synergy focuses on Hip Hop, Reggae, Soca and R&B with the DJs free to incorporate other styles for freshness and variety.
