Digcel, Latinos team up

The Latin community of the Cayman Islands will have cause to celebrate this Friday at an event being billed as Cayman’s first Latin Independence Festival.

According to organisers, September marks the independence of several countries in Latin America and is widely known as a festival time in the Latin community. In addition to Latin music, the event will feature the colourful costumes of Central America as well as traditional Latin dishes and is anticipated to be a celebration of the cultures of several Central and South American countries, states a press release.

Digicel has signed on as the major sponsor of the event, organised by the Latinos Football Club and the Country & Western Bar to benefit the football club’s programmes.

The Country and Western Bar parking lot is anticipated to welcome guests from the many Latin American countries represented in the Cayman Islands, including Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Mexico, Chile and more as they come out to celebrate a fusion of Latin cultures.

The evening’s entertainment will feature local talent Azucar Moreno, who will open the show with a variety of merengue, soca and country music. Following will be Coco Red – one of Cayman’s hottest bands specializing in salsa, soca and reggae. The opening acts will be followed by the main attraction of the night, Raggamuffin Killers, Central America’s most popular Reggaeton group comprised of six young stars from Honduras well known for their distinctive delivery of the Reggaeton music that has taken the Latin music world by storm.

Guests can also look forward to a fashion show compliments of Impressions Boutique featuring 16 models from Latin America and the Caribbean, who will be showcasing the latest fashions from around the region. In addition, there will be a variety of Central American dishes available including baladeas, carne asada and enchiladas.

Digicel, as title sponsor of the event will be handing out lots of giveaways and will also be providing guests with opportunities to win a Sony Ericsson K750 and a Panasonic X700.
