Civil servant survey due

The Cayman Islands Civil Service Association is seeking feedback from civil servants about their current standard of living, particularly as it relates to monthly income versus expenses.

“In this post-Ivan economy, civil servants have been struggling to make ends meet financially like most other citizens in the country. This survey is to collect some data which the Association will pass on to the Hon. Chief Secretary who is actively trying to address the situation,” said President of the Association, Sheena Glasgow via a press release.

The survey will seek information from civil servants on their salary, jobs, number of dependents, etc. On the expenses side, it seeks data on such matters as paying for basic utilities, food, housing, childcare and civil servants’ general ability to meet financial obligations.

Ms Glasgow added that one important aspect of the survey is the question on possible ways that Government could earn additional revenue to help fund any salary increases that might be considered. She said, “It’s easy to ask your boss for more money, but it’s much more challenging when you’ve also got to tell him how he can help fund a salary increase for everybody in the company, without it costing the customer. In our case, the customer is the general public.”

The survey is being distributed via the Government intranet this week. So the Association is appealing to all civil servants with access to the intranet to print and help distribute the survey amongst their co-workers.

The survey is limited to civil servants in central Government at this time, but civil servants on the Sister Islands are welcome to participate.

Because the timeframe for getting the information back to the Chief Secretary is tight, the deadline to return surveys has been set at Monday, 19 September.

Completed surveys may be given to any member of the Association’s Management Council or sent to Ms Glasgow at the General Post Office.
