Dog tales get twisted

Everyone in the Potkins household thought it was such a doggone shame when pet pooch Tiffy disappeared after Hurricane Ivan.

But a curious twist in the tale, one year later, has now re-united him with his family.

With the hurricane bearing down on the Cayman Islands, the family made the decision to leave Tiffy with a neighbour while they travelled overseas.

On their return they were told by the neighbour that Tiffy had gone missing during the hurricane, and they had assumed she had drowned.

After much looking, they finally decided to adopt another dog from the Humane Society, which they named Je T’Aime.

Sarah Potkins, the 10-year-old to whom Tiffy belonged, had a classmate who she had invited over several times but whose house she had never been.

Each day they both attended the Cayman Prep School and sat in the same Year 6 class not knowing that a dog Emma’s father had rescued after the Hurricane and who they had named Rat was in fact Tiffy.

It was not until Emma invited Sarah over one day that she got to meet the dog.

She was astonished at the close resemblance to her dog Tiffy and immediately called her mom.

‘When Emma’s mom brought Sarah home we showed her photos of Tiffy and that was when we learned that the family had rescued the dog on South Sound Road after the storm and renamed her Rat,’ said Mrs. Potkins.

‘We could not keep the two dogs because by that time we had also adopted a cat so we asked the Adams if they would like to swap dogs.

They readily agreed, Emma took our new dog Je T’Aime and renamed her ‘Bailey,’ Sarah got back her dog and gave her back her old name Tiffy.

After the swap the tale of the dogs took a catty twist.

During the time Tiffy was missing the Potkins family had also adopted a cat.

Now Kai the cat was used to the new dog Je T’Aime and got along just fine.

When the Potkins brought Tiffy back, Kai the cat wanted none of it and kicked up a fuss.

And guess what was happening over at the Adams yard?

After rescuing Tiffy, the family had brought it home to meet their cat which took an instant dislike to the dog.

What is also remarkable is that one year ago Emma had asked the Potkins family if they would adopt their cat because their new dog Rat did not like her.

The tale of two dogs might be finished? But is this doggy story taking a new twist? Who knows, maybe these two families are in for another swap.
