Recovery Fund thanks supporters

The Cayman Islands National Recovery Fund is saying a heartfelt thanks to the hundreds of supporters and donors who two weeks ago helped raise nearly $2 million through CITN’s Raising the Roof Telethon.

‘We were overwhelmed by the outpouring of community spirit and support for this event,’ Executive Director, Dr. Mark Laskin said. ‘Although it will take millions before Cayman is fully restored, the funds raised as a result of the Telethon will make a significant impact in helping families to rebuild their homes and their lives. The level of support for the Telethon shows that residents are committed to the rebuilding effort and to helping their neighbours,’ he added.

The Telethon, a national effort staged through the hard work of CITN, its employees and hundreds of volunteers, was held on 10 September at the Marriott Resort and raised $1,971,246.

Over the past two weeks, many donors have already sent in their pledges. In some cases where pledge information was complete, donors have been contacted via mail with instructions on how to follow-up on a pledge.

If donors have not received a letter, the Fund requests that all pledges be honoured by mailing in a cheque for the amount of the pledge to the National Recovery Fund at P.O. Box 190 GT. Persons may also drop off payment at the Fund’s office at Trinity Square, Eastern Avenue or can contact the Fund at 943-3863.

Established on 23 September, 2004, The Cayman Islands National Recovery Fund is a private, independent, charitable trust focused on helping families restore their lives and recover from the devastating effects of Hurricane Ivan. Even today, many are still rebuilding their lives.

The Cayman Islands National Recovery Fund focuses on the most vulnerable population – the elderly, disabled, ill and families with young children. Immediately following the storm, the Fund addressed the critical need to ‘dry in’ families: repairing and replacing roofs, windows and doors lost in the storm. Now, the Fund is focused on restoring families to suitable living conditions.
