Appropriations bill gets approval

The Appropriation (July 2005 to June 2006) Bill 2005 successfully made its way through the Legislative Assembly on Friday.

Members met for a short time on Friday afternoon to give the bill its third reading and pass it.

Finance Committee had managed to push through consideration of the more than 350 items in the schedule attached to it in two days.

But those two days included a marathon sitting until past midnight on Wednesday.

Prior to that, Members spent several days debating the budget address, which had been delivered to the Legislative Assembly by Financial Secretary Kenneth Jefferson on 10 October.

Mr. Jefferson told the House that the budget provided for approximately $367.3 million of operating expenditure in 2005/6, and a further $80.6 million of investing or capital expenditure.

Legislative Assembly was adjourned until Friday, 4 November.
