School speed zones to be set

An amendment to the traffic law to make 15mph zones around the schools is set to be made.

Minister Arden McLean told the Cabinet press briefing he had received word that it would be possible shortly to take the amendment to the Legislative Assembly.

Mr. McLean said provisions were being made to order different lights that would go overhead, he told the briefing.

There would also be a truncation of the distances of the zone round the school, said Mr. McLean.

At present he believed the restricted distance was one mile, half a mile on either side.

The new zone would be in the immediate vicinity of the schools, he said.
