Clash of rivals ends in draw

Scholars and Strikers was one of the all-time best sports rivalries in Cayman. While Strikers FC is no more, many former Strikers players form the nucleus of George Town Sports Club and the rivalry is alive and well.

The West Bay-based Scholars hooked up with GTSC for a Foster’s National League match on Sunday and it turned out to be one more memorable round in the classy feud.

From the first whistle, the match generated power and passion. Garth Anderson opened up the scoring, putting GTSC up 1-0 with a skillful goal in the 9th minute.

George Town’s defense was tough, anchored by veterans Neil Murray and goalkeeper Clay Coleman. GTSC managed to frustrate Scholars all afternoon until the 81st minute when David Reid found the net to equalize.

Scholars and GTSC currently lead the Eastern Zone with eight and seven points, respectively.

Money Express is on top of the Western Zone with 10 points.

Alfredo Whittaker was the match referee.
