Under the initiative, the CISC will accept orders for a variety of racing boats and will obtain favourable rates by buying them in bulk from highly reputable suppliers in the US and Europe.
As part of the service, the CISC will arrange for customs clearance and will even deliver the boats to a customer’s home if they wish.
The CISC is accepting orders from now until about the middle of February, said CISC Sailing Director Michael Weber, who is overseeing the initiative.
Anyone interested in ordering a boat should contact Sailing Director Michael Weber as soon as possible at [email protected].
The CISC is itself planning to order a number of RS Feva double-handed racing boats as part of the shipment in order to support its revamped learn-to-sail and race training programmes. The club is also seeking sponsorship for a revived fleet of single-handed Byte CII boats.
Much of the CISC’s then large fleet of sailing boats was destroyed by Hurricane Ivan in 2004.
The five types of boats that Michael is ordering are described based on sailing style, age and weight.
The first of these is an Optimist, a single-handed racing dinghy for children aged 5-12 weighing between 60lb-130lb (25kg-55kg). The Optimist costs approximately US$2,750 excluding shipping from Florida.
The second boat available is called a Byte CII – a single-handed racing dinghy designed for young people aged 12-16 and adults between 110lb-160lb (50kg-70kg). The Byte CII costs approximately US$4,395 excluding shipping from Florida.
The third type of boat that the CISC will order is a Laser Radial or Standard Rig. This boat, a regular feature of Olympic regattas, is a single-handed racing dinghy for anyone aged 16 and over with a weight of 140lb-170lb (65kg-75kg) while the Standard Laser is for heavier sailors between 170lb-200lb (75kg-90kg). Both class of Laser cost approximately US$4,500 excluding shipping from Florida.
The RS Feva is the fourth class of boat on offer. The RS Feva is a double-handed racing dinghy and is regarded as the new and up-and-coming youth racing boat for youngsters aged 12-16. It is also an idea parent and child boat. The RS Feva costs approximately US$4,200 excluding shipping from the UK.
The fifth and final boat available through this CISC initiative is the Laser Pico, a recreational beginner boat for adults as well as children. The Laser Pico costs approximately US$3,250 excluding shipping from Florida
