Appleby Spurling Hunter, one of Cayman’s largest law firms has joined private industry efforts to support the public image of Cayman’s financial services sector by recently becoming a member of the Cayman Islands Financial Services Association.
CIFSA is undergoing a major membership drive after making some significant strides in the area of international public relations for the industry in its first 18 months, states a press release.
The Association, which has received over 815,000 hits and just under 45,000 visitors to its website since March 2004 has also achieved the publication of numerous articles in international media on the Cayman Islands’ financial services sector, was encouraged by Appleby’s recent contribution and membership.
‘Appleby has proven itself time and time again to be a good corporate citizen and an important player in the local financial services industry and we are very pleased that they are supporting the efforts of the Cayman Islands Financial Services Association’ Mr Eduardo D’Angelo P. Silva, CIFSA Director said.
Mr, Bryan Hunter, partner, Appleby Spurling Hunter heaped praise on CIFSA for its achievements in such a short period.
‘Appleby is very pleased to support the efforts of the Cayman Islands Financial Services Association. We are impressed with both its objective to communicate the quality and integrity of the local industry at the international level and its achievements in such a short time frame,’ Mr. Hunter said.
Mr Hunter said CIFSA had an important mandate of communicating Cayman’s positive messages.
‘Being part of CIFSA allows Appleby to be actively involved in this process and to assist the Association with the development and implementation of its strategic initiatives. The recent growth of the Association shows that the financial community as a whole is supportive of the concept and sees the need to inform the misinformed about the jurisdiction,’ he said.
‘The challenge for the organisation will be to utilise these new-found resources to increase the reach of the message into areas that have been previously untapped.”
CIFSA has so far received this year similar membership contributions from over 10 financial services firms across a wide range of service offerings including banks, law firms, accountants and mutual fund administrators.
But the relatively young Association recognises that it will require additional resources in order to achieve its goals. Mr Eric Crutchley, CIFSA Director, said he was hopeful that more companies would step forward to support the Association’s efforts to assist in dealing with the public relations issues facing the jurisdiction at the global level.
‘Membership contributions like Appleby’s provide us with the resources to fulfil our objectives’ Mr Crutchley said. ‘We are hopeful that given our track record to date, we will see additional support from other local financial services companies,’ he said.
