‘Xtreme Challenge’ to test Cayman skateboarders

The X107.1 Xtreme Challenge, an all-level, amateur skate competition for skaters aged six and up, will be held at Black Pearl’s Skate and Surf this Saturday, 1 April, starting at 4 PM. Skaters will be challenged to put on their best moves in the ‘Best Trick Competition’ and will be judged in three age categories: Little Thrashers (ages 6 – 9); Junior Thrashers (ages 10 – 14) and Thrashers (ages 15 and up.) Eight advanced skaters will also be selected by Black Pearl to contend in the ‘Game of S-K-A-T-E.’ Competitors will be presented with great prizes and giveaways, courtesy of Black Pearl and X107.1. J-KRUZ, X107.1 Program Director, commented: ‘X107.1 is pleased to be hosting an event of this nature. The X107.1 Xtreme Challenge will allow young people to share in their passion for skating. X107.1 feels that being involved in competitive sports is paramount for the positive development of Cayman’s young adults.’

Comments, Kevin Grzybouski, the supervisor overseeing Black Pearl’s Skate and Surf and the Black Pearl Boardshop: ‘Black Pearl is really excited to be teaming up with X107.1 on this event. This is a great opportunity for the kids to demonstrate their skills, and for the community to come out and support them.’

Other attractions at Grand Harbour on the same day include the April Art Affair, with booths selling local crafts, ensuring there will be lots to do for all the family.

Skaters can register for the event during the week at the Black Pearl Boardshop in Grand Harbour. Entry fee is $10.
