Purple Toucan 5K race set for Sunday

Island Companies Ltd. announced that the 3rd Annual Purple Toucan 5K race will be held on Sunday, May 7th starting at 7am at Regatta Office Park adjacent to Safe Haven. Each year, proceeds from the race are donated to the Cayman Islands Special Olympics.

Prizes for the top male and female finishers include Nike runner’s watches, Maui Jim Sport sunglasses, and a handsome plaque commemorating the victory. Lots of great raffle prizes will be drawn with all race participants eligible to win! The first 100 entrants also receive a commemorative Purple Toucan t-shirt, so don’t wait to register!

Complimentary refreshments will be served at race beginning, end, and at the 1 and 2 mile markers (1.6 and 3.2 km) to all participants, courtesy of the race co-sponsors Progressive Distributors, Le Bleu and Tropicana.

The Purple Toucan race is open to runners, joggers, walkers, kids, and families with strollers. ‘Grand Cayman has such a great, sporty community’, quipped ICL Marketing Director, Mark Lewis-Jones, ‘and we thank the community in advance for the big turnout we are expecting to support this worthy cause.’

The entry fee is $10 per entrant. Forms can be picked up either at Landmark Jewellers in downtown George Town (tel: 945-0204) or at Island Companies Ltd headquarters on the roundabout at 224 North Sound Road (tel: 945-5800, ext. 0). On-site registration and race number pick-up begins at 6:45am on race day at Regatta Office Park, Windward 3 Building. There will be ample parking and restroom facilities available.
