Indeed the capsizing of the boat in North Sound was a potential tragedy but my question is, was it avoidable.
Many vessels in recent years have been remodeled to take advantage of the many people wanting to go to Stingray City.
How many of these boats would pass a standard stability test, such as is required in most major jurisdictions, such as the US, UK and Canada. Would the Sun Runner have passed such a test?
How many vessels are we running now that would not pass this standard (in other jurisdiction) safety test?
These are questions that need to be answered or the next incident may not turn out so favorably.
I hope that this testing will be part of the requirements put forward by the Complaints Commissioners study.
