The recent Purple Toucan 5K race at Safehaven was a resounding success. More than 125 participants helped Island Companies Ltd raise $2661 for the C.I. Special Olympics.
Capturing the men’s category for the second year in a row with a winning time of 17:12 was Marius Acker, of South Africa. Cayman’s own Emily Davies won the women’s category in 21:02.
Both received a victory plaque, a Nike runner’s watch, and a pair of Maui Jim sunglasses. Special Olympian, Kevin Anglin, also finished the race in fine style.
Post-race activities included refreshments and a raffle for all participants.
Co-sponsors for this year’s race included Progressive Distributors, Tropicana, Le Bleu, and DMS/Kiss 106.1 Radio.
Island Companies Ltd. thanked Jerry Harper for timing the race and laying out the course, and to Dart Management for allowing the use of their facilities at Regatta to stage the event.
