On Wednesday, 14 June the Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman will host this year’s Red Dress Affair.
The Cayman Islands Cancer Society host the affair every year, but many changes are in store for this year’s event.
The Luncheon Affair has been added prior to the traditional Evening Affair. Both affairs will be hosted at the Ritz-Carlton, and will offer health information and screenings by Generali Insurance as well as a silent auction and fashion show.
The difference between the two affairs will be in the speakers, items of the silent auctions and the fashion presented in the runway shows.
In addition, there will be an Ask the Professional desk where attendees will be able to ask questions of doctors, nutritionists, fitness trainers and other health professionals.
The Silver Rain la prairie spa of the Ritz-Carlton will also be offering chair massages.
Cardiologist Dr. Edward Peron will speak at the Luncheon Affair, which is primarily for women. Dr. Peron has visited several times to make presentations on behalf of the CICS.
His presentation, titled The Heart Truth, aims to increase awareness of heart disease as the number one killer of women.
Chiclit will host the fashion show.
The Luncheon Affair will be held from 11am to 2pm with lunch being served at 12 noon. Tickets cost $40 and are available from the CICS office.
The Evening Affair for ladies and gentlemen begins at 5pm at the Ritz-Carlton. Together with the Ritz-Carlton, Baptist Health South Florida will host the cocktail reception that begins the evening and music will be provided by the Sax Quartet.
Dr. Nancy Eklund will speak at the Evening Affair on Navigating Your Course to Wellness, while Ms. Mikki Thompson will also speak, discussing the economics related to smoking.
Le Classique will present the fashion show for the evening.
There is no ticket purchase necessary to attend the Evening Affair, but a donation of CI$25 is requested to support the work of the CICS. If you would like to attend the Evening Affair you are asked to please reserve your space by calling the Cancer Society office at 949-7618 or emailing [email protected].
The silent auctions will feature items donated by Cartier and other local businesses including Sounds and Things, Furniture and Accessories Depot, Priya’s Spa, Bodyworks, Vigoro Nursery, Island Cleaners, and others. In addition, local artists will donate some of their original works.
Baptist Health South Florida and The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman are the premier sponsors of the event.
Christine Sanders, Manager of the Cancer Society, thanked the sponsors for their support. ‘The Affair is one of the biggest fundraising events for the CICS,’ she said.
‘It is especially important this year as all of the Society’s fundraising efforts for the year and almost all the donations they have received have been designated for the Women Helping Women Memorial Fund.
‘The Society does not benefit from donations to this fund and it is in need of funding for its general programming such as providing financial assistance to cancer patients and their families and providing vouchers for free cancer screenings. Proceeds from this event will provide funding for these programs.’
