June, July show heaviest rainfall

Rainfall has been by far the heaviest in June and July of this year, with both months well above average, while all other months in the year have been below or near their averages.

June, at 14.6 inches, had a lot more rain than the short (10 year) and long term (30 year) averages of 6.59 and 6.11 inches respectively.

Figures were supplied by forecaster Kerry Powery of the Meteorological Services as measured at Owen Roberts International Airport, Grand Cayman.

July, at 9.65 inches, was also well above its short and long term averages of 6.17 and 5.66 inches.

May, at 2.6 inches, had much less rain than its short and long term averages of 6.38 and 6.3 inches respectively.

April of this year had 0.63 of an inch of rain, below the short and long term averages of 0.9 inches and 1.59 inches respectively.

March was by far the driest month this year, at 0.02 of an inch. The short term average for this month is 0.82, while the long term average is 1.36 inches.

February had 1.49 inches of rain, just above the short term average, at 1.22 inches, and below the long-term average of 1.61 inches.

For January there was only 0.93 inches of rain when the 10 year average is 2.53 inches and the long term average is 2.18 inches.

Temperatures so far this year vary when compared to the 10 year average and 30 year average.

For January the average temperature was 78.8 degrees Fahrenheit with the long term average over a degree cooler, at 77.7, and the short term average at 78.4.

In February this year the average temperature was at 77.9 degrees, with the short term average higher, at 79.3, and the long term average at 78 degrees.

For March this year the average temp was 79.5 degrees, nearly a degree lower than the short term average of 80.4. The long term average is 79.2.

April of this year averaged at 81.5 degrees, with the short term average slightly higher at 81.8 and the long term average nearly a degree lower at 80.6.

May this year had an average temperature of 84 while the short term average for this month is 83.6. The long term average is 82.4.

June this year had an average temperature of 84 degrees, the same as the long term average and one degree lower than the short term average.

July’s average temperature was 85 degrees, a half a degree cooler than the short term average and 0.4 of a degree hotter than the long-term average.
