An enthusiastic group of participants turned out for the first segment of the 2006 Fidelity Fun Run Series.
The initiation of the local running season was enjoyed by persons of all ages and abilities. It is hoped that each entrant from the opening segment will bring a companion to the next outing on Saturday, 16 September.
Some new faces were on the scene, and old acquaintances were welcomed back.
Marius Acker has been dominating recent events at various distances, and served notice that he is intending to continue his placement at the top of the list. His field-leading time of 10:52.88 led runnerup Graham Monk by ten seconds, while third place was captured by Tom Stephens with an 11:42.03 mark.
On the ladies’ side, Gill Comins topped all the female competitors with a 13:45.33 effort,.She was closely trailed by sisters Kadeen and Deeann Foster with their respective times of 13:50.54, and 13:51.56.
Lily Gammage , ably assisted by Dad Tom, was the first pram passenger to cross the finish line, while 7-year-old Ciaran Touhey made it all the way on his own in 20:18.37.
Division leaders after Week 1 include Tom/Lily Gammage, Ciaran Touhey,Tacita Berry,James Tweedie, Ashleigh Nalty, Kadeen Foster, Tom Stephens, Laura Knox,Marius Acker,Gill Comins, Graham Monk, Susan Kerr, Max Obrist, and Lois Johnas.
The series continues this coming Saturday morning. All of last week’s participants are encouraged to bring an additional companion.
Start time is again 7:30 a.m. from John Gray High School on Walker’s Road , with registration and checkin beginning an hour earlier.
Entry fee is $5 for each week’s action, and refreshments will be served. Event shirts, and awards for top overall and age group performers will be distributed following the final run.
