Unhappy here? Then leave

In response to Lisa Andrews who wrote ‘Expats welcomed in Canada’ (Tuesday 26 September) I apologize on behalf of other Canadians who still thoroughly enjoy living in Grand Cayman.

Since I arrived here the local people couldn’t have been more polite and welcoming. I have met and am working directly with several Caymanian people and they appreciate my hard work and efforts to assimilate and integrate.

This is their country not mine, and the very least I can show them is respect.

Sadly, many Canadians remain parochial and they still believe that they are welcomed with open arms wherever they go, regardless of how they behave.

The fact is that they don’t breathe rare air.

The world has changed and we live in a global village. It is time for Canadians to wake up and grow up.

Sometimes Canadians don’t know when to keep quiet. They truly believe that their opinion is the most important one. They don’t realize that they just inflame a situation when they whine.

Canada is a beautiful country with lots of opportunity, and it certainly has a lot more room than Grand Cayman. It needs a lot of the expats who are living here, and there shouldn’t be any restrictions for them to move back to that melting pot.

If you are that unhappy with Cayman, buy a plane ticket.
