In reference to the 20 September editorial, Can’t we stop litter?
I absolutely agree that every member of the public should be behave responsibly with regard to litter.
I find it amazing that our beautiful beaches can be found strewn with plastic cups, straws, cigarette boxes, beer cans etc.
It is true that there is still some rubble coming out of the ocean from Ivan (parts of roof tiles, fishing debris etc.) but the majority of rubbish is from lazy individuals.
At least once a month I take my two children down to the beach with a large plastic bag and we clear up a small area.

The children love it and it makes them aware of the environment.
I recommend that other people do this – teach your children a good habit!
