The Health Services Authority appointed Lizzette (Howell) Yearwood as acting CEO to replace the ousted Craig Brown last week.
Health Minister Anthony Eden indicated Mrs. Yearwood could be in the position for quite some time.
‘At this time, we’re not rushing to fill the position,’ he said, adding that there needed to be a calming period now in the HSA.
‘We’re not going to stir things up,’ he said. ‘We’re going to take our time.’
Mr. Eden pointed out that Mrs. Yearwood had been one of the deputy CEOs of the HSA when Shirlene Henriques was acting CEO prior to Mr. Brown’s arrival in April 2006.
Board of Directors Chairman Al Ebanks issued a statement to all HSA staff advising them of the appointment.
‘The Board is confident that with her years of service and experience within the Health Services, along with her dedication, hard work, commitment and drive to succeed, Mrs. Yearwood is well capable of leading the organisation at this time,’ the statement said.
Mr. Ebanks stated that the Board had given Mrs. Yearwood ‘the assurance of its full support to achieve primary objectives and mission of our strategic plan.’
That mission and those objectives include ‘creating a health system that is the model for the region and is well placed for the 21st century and beyond, whilst creating a work environment that attracts and retains employees and one in which every employee is valued and feels a part of a larger family.’
Mr. Ebanks encouraged all staff members to give their full support in restoring HSA pride.
‘The way forward of the HSA requires a team spirit and commitment from everyone, at all levels, the Chairman, Board Members, senior management and the staff,’ Mr. Ebanks stated.
